The Cat Box Corp. proudly presents the third album from the long running experimental folk/rock/disco/drone project Flowers of Yes! Always a studio bound project, this new album take the process to a logical endpoint with six long form tracks mixing heavy drones, never ending folk songs, beat driven soundscapes, abstract improvisations and sweet melodies built from sound constructions by multi-instrumentalists Martin Tristan Andersen and Marc Kellaway enriched with twin lead vocals by singers Tanja Vesterbye Jessen and Marie Aarup Jensen. Marc, Tanja and Marie might be better known collectively as Distortion Girls, but this is a quite different beast.
The songs are heavy, electric and layered this time round and definitely the most "rock" Flowers of Yes! have ever sounded: Opening with "A Fierce Smile" - all massed guitars, driving drums and a free form chanted condemnation of the current right wing Danish government -before diving into the even more dense surrealism of "Demand/Refuse" and the Dylanesque ode to administrative perversity of "Paperwork" (also covered by Distortion Girls on their recent debut album "Party".) From here we enter more cooling waters though the electronic dream scape of muted beats and looped guitars in "Several Hits" and the massive two-parts-with-interlude space ballad "The Body Lies" before crashing back to the party with the psychedelic noise disco of "Everything is Bright".
Mixed by Tanja Vesterbye Jessen on unwieldy analog equipment, spectrally mastered by the legendary Rashad Becker for maximum warmt, and packaged in a full color gatefold cover by Søren Meisner/Rød Font, you'll find no release more multicolered this year!
